Individual Counselling Services

Deep-dives for personal exploration

Individual Counselling sessions utilizes one on one support to facilitate deep-dives into personal exploration. Individual counselling may be most suited for processing trauma-based concerns that are at the beginning stages of resolution.

How our counsellors are trained:

Curated Training for
Justice-Oriented Practice

All our counsellors are Master's level students at accredited universities in so-called Vancouver.

While doing their training at Prospect, our counsellors access weekly individual and group supervision to ensure ethical and effective practice. They are also regularly trained by community leaders in the following areas:

  • Anti-oppressive, intersectional Feminism
  • Anti-colonial framework
  • Anti-carceral and abolitionist practices within mental health
  • Queer theory and queering mental health
  • Disability Justice practices
  • Reflexivity practices for questioning dominant discourse and colonial psychotherapy
  • Liberation Psychology

Our counsellors engage in co-therapy with experienced clinicians on various concerns with your consent. We also collaborate with our practicum students to create a plan for further training and workshops. As budget allows, our counsellors are also funded to engage with more intensive certification programs.

Relationship Counselling Services

For all your important relationships.

Relationship Counselling sessions helps facilitate connection and conflict resolution for all the important relationships in your life. Relationship Counselling may be most suited for processing and adjusting interpersonal dynamics, and/or adjusting communication processes within relationships.

We are uninvited settlers occupying the stolen, unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō) peoples.

Our relationship with these lands dictates our commitment to understanding the ongoing impacts of colonization and decolonizing our practices in and out of the counselling room.

What we offer:

For communities, by communities.

Prospect Counselling + Training is a POC-led counselling practice dedicated to providing accessible and exceptional counselling to SDQTBIPOC+ communities while disrupting the capitalist values currently upholding standard clinical training programs. Rather than building wealth for practice owners, proceeds from services provided support further training, thereby enhancing the services you receive, while funding projects for collective healing within the community.

Cost can and is a barrier that limits people’s access to counselling. As part of making counselling more accessible, we have a sliding scale for counselling services: $25-80 per 50-minute session.

We ask you to consider what you are able to pay based on your financial situation. We also recognise that this may change over the course of accessing our services and are happy to have a continued conversation with you.
